For those who don’t know, I paint, act, and write, and I love each of these equally. Amongst painting, acting, and writing, I have a million and one small tasks to complete. I’m that person who tries to do them all at once, which isn’t ideal. Since realizing that, I have learned how to prioritize each task amongst painting, acting, and writing. Another keyword — “prioritize.” During the time, I didn’t consider that trying to get it all done, at the same time, would burn me out. Being burnt out depletes me of my energy, creativity, and basic functionality of my brain. What good am I if I’m overwhelmed with a long to-do list? None. Once I understood that the quality of my work would be affected because I’m overwhelmed, really was a game-changer for me. It’s a lesson that I have now learned and have started making the proper adjustments needed to accomplish each task.
Truthfully, I got more work done when I prioritize and do one thing at a time. My advice would be to figure out which item on your to-do list that needs the most attention and focus on that. Try putting all your time and energy into that one particular thing until it’s completed. Once you’re done with that one, you can check it off of your list and move to the next. Accomplishing the most important task on your list will empower you. It provides you the exact motivation you need to get more done. You’ll even notice an increase in your creativity. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that it’s about prioritizing the small things, which gets us ready for the big things. So, instead of us overloading ourselves trying to get everything done, let’s do one thing at a time.
